Malaysia and Gecko Travel
Lying just north of the equator, Malaysia comprises 2 distinct areas; the North and Western part of the island of Borneo - Sabah and Sarawak - and the Malayan Peninsula stretching north to south from Thailand to Singapore and east to west from the South China Sea to the Straights of Malacca.
Following on from our long-running, and award winning, Peninsula or West Malaysia tour, as of October 2007 Gecko Travel will be extending our Malaysia tours with 3 new itineraries; a 12 day Peninsula tour, a 12 day Borneo trip and a unique 3 week tour combining the two regions. Covering some of the best, plus some as yet undiscovered sites to bring you a wide and varied range of destinations in both parts of the country.
West Malaysia
Outside of one or two island 'hotspots' the Peninsula has been fortunately bypassed by mass tourism, yet contains some of the country's best preserved forest areas, plentiful wildlife, unspoilt white sand beaches and historic towns. Jungle dwelling, tribal people, still hunting with blowpipes, living a mere 2 hours from KL's ultra modern Petronas Towers means the cliche - 'a country of contrasts' - really is true in Malaysia's case and the ethnic mix of Chinese, Indian and Malays creates a genuinely wide diversity, (and awesome food!).
Borneo
Needs no introduction! An evocative name for an exotic destination: jagged mountain peaks, jungle lined rivers, mist shrouded rainforest and rich wildlife complement the tea plantations, bustling Chinatowns and colonial Victorian architecture of the Malay Peninsula for a memorable tour of this fascinating part of SE Asia.
Islands!
For our West Malaysia tour we are now offering an extension on the superb Perhentian Islands, (March to September), and for Borneo some post jungle R & R on Pulao Mabul in the world famous Sipadan Island group. (See itineraries for full details.) |
